About Us


In order to create a competitive option at Blackman High School for students who are interested in pursuing a rigorous course of study as well as having the Blackman Experience, the Blackman Collegiate Academy was developed by Dr. Justus and faculty committee in the Spring of 2014.


Since it's inception, the Blackman Collegiate Academy has partnered with Middle Tennessee State University, The Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, and Wilson Bank & Trust. The Collegiate Academy currently consists of over 300 students  and 50 faculty members serving on various boards. In the Class of 2017, the 60 BCA graduates had an ACT average of 28.2, cumulative GPA average of 3.8 and was involved in over 1,256 extra-curricular activities and 12 Valedictorians. Currently, in the Class of 2018, we are proud to announce 3 National Merit Semi-Finalist and 16 Valedictorians. 



graduate from The Collegiate Academy will not only be prepared academically, but will also be armed with creativity and leadership skills that will enable them to compete with confidence in a rapidly changing world.  Students who complete the Academy requirements will be set up with the possibility of graduating with an honors diploma, graduation with distinction, Valedictorian status and will be able to distinguish themselves apart. 


Once students are admitted into the Collegiate Academy, students will be required to complete the following components:

  • 12 credits of honors, AP, and/or Dual Enrollment classes before graduation

  • .5 extra credit of Speech or Critical Thinking
  • 20 documented hours of extra-curricular activities each year

  • Life experience in the area of his/her major focus

  • Senior Capstone Project



The mission of The Collegiate Academy is to provide a high-quality, college preparatory academic program while providing students with The Blackman Experience where they can thrive not only academically but also socially, athletically, and artistically.

The vision of The Collegiate Academy at Blackman High School is to create a challenging learning environment with a rigorous course of study where students can become well-rounded scholars who fulfill their potential in academic, artistic, athletic, and social settings.  The Collegiate Academy will provide an environment of excellence, responsibility, and diversity to foster the total development of each student and prepare our graduates to succeed both in their higher educational pursuits as well as become leaders in their communities.
