Skill Focus: persuasive essay, claim, reason, evidence
Assignment: After reading the short story "Interlopers" by Saki and the essay "Tolerance" by E.M. Forster, write a persuasive essay about 2 virtues needed for peaceful coexistence in society. What is the antidote to rage, hatred, war? Your 4 paragraph essay must have a claim, reasons, and multiple evidences for support. Use 2 quotations either from the texts or other reliable speakers. This essay will be graded on effective use of language and grammar conventions. Use (+5) Unit 3 vocab words in the essay (BOLD). Be passionate and informed about your topic!
Intro paragraph: Open with a creative hook such as a rhetorical question or personal anecdote. Include a clear thesis that states two virtues.
Body Paragraphs: Open with a clear topic sentence that states the virtue. Next give your reason. Follow up with multiple examples such as personal, historical, literary, or contemporary events. Include a relevant quotation. Identify the speaker and give context. Conclude with a powerful point that emphasizes the topic sentence.
Conclusion: Restate your points. Make your most powerful points here!
