Hello Everyone! 
     I am super excited for our 2023-2024 school year! Hopefully most things will be back to normal. This year will there are already many performances planned and Freshman Honor Choir, Mid-State Honor Choir, Rutherford County Honor Choir, and All-State Choir are planned to be in person and live. This is exciting and it means there are lots of performing opportunities for our wonderful students on and off-campus. There will be a welcome back celebration with food and games followed by a parent meeting on Thursday August 24 beginning around 4:00 with the meeting at 6:30. There will be a notary at the meeting to notarize medical forms. All students will be given a BHS Choir Department packet the first week of school with handouts that will need to be turned back in by Thursday 24. Choir Dues of $75.00 are due by Friday September 22. 
 
GENERAL INFORMATION:
The BHS Choir classes are performance based classes designed to teach students good, strong, healthy vocal techniques in an ensemble setting.  Participation in class is a requirement and singing is a whole body activity.  Students will be required to do some movement in class.  The choirs will have scheduled performance each semester outlined in the Choir Calendar.  Some of the choirs will have more scheduled performances and/or events than others. There are 3 choir classes during the day and there will be an after-school choir offered.

  • Concert Choir - SATB Choir open to all students without audition and all incoming Freshman
  • BHS Singers - auditioned SATB choir
  • A Cappella Choir - auditioned advanced SSAATTBB Choir

  • MTVA Choral Adjudication Festival

  • The possibility of invitations to perform may arise.
 
Freshman Honor's Choir, Mid-State Choir, and All-State Choir, All-County Choral Festival, Choral Adjudication Festival 
Participation in the All-County Choral Festival, Freshman Honor's Choir, Mid-State Choir, and All-State Choir is highly encouraged to all choir members but is not a requirement. The 2023 Audition Music has been included in the attachments below.
 
GRADES & REQUIREMENTS:
All students will be graded on a weekly basis.  Grades will come in the form of written quizzes about the music they are learning, from sight-reading, from performances of the music being learned, and individual journaling.  There will be scheduled assessments and there will be non-announced assessments.  Participation is mandatory and will have an effect on your grade.  Scheduled performances are mandatory and will be graded. There is a performance uniform required for all choir members. If a scheduled performance is missed there will be options for that grade recovery, however the performance cannot be replaced.

Fine Arts at Blackman High School 
The choral department is just one piece of an amazing Fine Arts program at Blackman. Many students are involved in Drama, Dance, Musical Theatre, Art, and Band. Several crossover among the different ones. We are very proud of our school and its support of Fine Arts.
