Welcome to Mrs. Cunningham's Page
Welcome to English for 2024-2025!
As we get class going, here are a few things to know about me and about our class.
This is my eighth year at BHS, but I have taught English for many years! I moved here seven years ago and have made Tennessee home, but I am originally a native Californian. My degree is in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara and I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Literacy Studies at MTSU.
About being successful in class, here are the basics:
1) You will need for class are loose-leaf paper, a binder (1/2" will be fine), and pens/pencils. Spiral notebooks are okay, but not the best for what we do, but it will need to have a place where handouts and returned work can be stored.
2) Every day you need to check Schoology. This is where our daily class agendas are kept so you can keep track of what we are doing. Great for when you are absent and need to keep track of the work being done while you are out. The agenda will always indicate where an assignment can be found and/or turned in.
3) Each of you will be given a laptop and charger that is expected to be with you each day of school. This allows you continuous access to the various electronic platforms we use such as Schoology, Commonlit, Nearpod, and Playposit. These are frequently used in our lessons and assignments.
4) Each of you will receive the two paperback volumes of our textbook My Perspective by Pearson. We will only work with one volume each quarter, but you will need to have the correct one each day. These allows you to write directly in them, remove pages, etc. as they will not be returned at the end of the year.
This will get us started. I look forward to getting to know each of you this year!
