It's time to start adding (and subtracting) rational expressions. That means it's time to remember how to add and subtract fractions. This is where the common denominators become important.


1) Build common denominator
2) Multiply top and bottom to make each fraction have that denominator
3) Distribute out the tops.
4) Combine like terms on top.
5) Factor the top and simplify (if you can).
