Did I mention we'd be factoring these things for a few days? Tonight's assignment is to do the EVEN problems from yesterday's worksheet. The whole worksheet is due tomorrow.
If you're having trouble with the technique we've been using to factor trinomials, there are others. I've linked to a few videos of these techniques below.
WARNING: There is a reason I teach the technique I do; I find it the most successful for both comprehension and getting the right answer. Most of these techniques involve finding two numbers that multiply to be something and add to be something else, so if finding your two numbers is the part that gives you trouble, most of these won't prove much simpler.
- Maybe you'll like...the box method (pretty much what we do, but written differently)
- Maybe you'll like...the bottoms-up technique (also called slide-and-divide)
- Maybe you'll like...the Berry Method
- Maybe you'll like...guess-and-check (This is how I learned; it's not bad on some problems, but if you get stuck, it's hard to get unstuck.)
