General Music is a Fine Arts class that will provide an overview of music through performing, researching, and creating.  Students will define and explore music through journaling, listening elements and popular song structure, discover instruments and their histories, research music history and modern music, learn how to read and write music, be introduced to playing piano, learn to sing the alma mater and other songs, be introduced to playing guitar, and create a percussion group and percussion performance.

 

Materials Needed for Class:

  1.        1 ½ inch 3 ring binder
  2.        Dividers / Tabs
  3.        Notebook paper
  4.        PENCILS and pens

Guidelines:

  •        Every Quarter the students will be given a guideline of activities, assignments, and grades. There will be no surprises and each student will know exactly what is expected of them.
  •       Absences: Students who are absent from class will need to make up their assignments or missed work in a timely manner.  If students need more time to complete assignments the student MUST COMMUNICATE THEIR NEEDS with the teacher.  Most of the grades will be performance based and excessive absences will make it hard for students to pass the class.  Minimal absences and good grades will mean exemptions from the FINAL EXAMS.  Reminder: there is a new attendance policy for our school district. 
  •       Failure to comply with the classroom rules will result in disciplinary action.
  •       Tardies: Upon receiving the students’ 3rd Tardy and any subsequent tardies, the student will be assigned Lunch and Learn.

 

Grading Policy

   There will be no surprises and the students will know what their assignments and due dates are in advance.
 
General Music Assignments will be in class and in Microsoft TEAMS and transitioning to Schoology.
